With White Bear Lake’s first frost just weeks away, now’s the time to confirm your chimney sweep is properly licensed, insured, and ready for peak season. Many homeowners assume ‘licensed & insured’ means the same thing, but it doesn’t. Here’s what to verify before booking, and how Jeffrey T Chimney Inc meets these standards for White Bear Lake homes.
Myth: ‘Licensed’ Means the Same Thing Everywhere: Fact: White Bear Lake Has Specific Rules
In Minnesota, chimney sweep licensing isn’t just a checkbox. It requires proof of training, equipment standards, and adherence to local building codes, especially critical in White Bear Lake’s older homes, where brick chimneys and vintage fireplaces demand precision. Some sweeps operate under general contracting licenses, which don’t cover chimney-specific work. At Jeffrey T Chimney Inc, our team holds active Minnesota chimney sweep credentials and follows White Bear Lake’s seasonal prep guidelines. Check our credentials here to see how we stack up against the minimum. If you’re unsure whether your sweep is qualified, ask: ‘Do you specialize in White Bear Lake’s climate and chimney types?’, not all do.
Myth: Insurance Covers ‘Any’ Damage: Fact: Your Policy Might Not If the Sweep Isn’t Certified
Insurance claims for chimney-related fires or collapses are denied 40% of the time when unlicensed sweeps are involved, per local adjusters. That’s because homeowners’ policies often exclude work done by non-certified professionals, even if the sweep claims to be ‘insured.’ Jeffrey T Chimney Inc carries full liability coverage for White Bear Lake jobs, including damage to your chimney or property during service. Before booking, verify their insurance covers chimney work specifically (not just general liability). Pro tip: Ask for a certificate of insurance before they start, many sweeps won’t provide it until after the job. Need a second opinion? Book a free estimate to confirm your sweep’s protections.
